Barcelona has a lot to offer at this time of the year. The old buildings, narrow streets of the old town and the friendly atmosphere make it a great winter destination. The cities many squares are beautifully lit and filled with varios markets.
The most well-known and classic market is Fira de Santa Llúcia Christmas Market. Dating from 1786, the Fira de Santa Llucia is a Christmas fair held between the 1st and the 23rd of December outside Barcelona Cathedral in the Gothic area of the city. Around 300 market stalls sell seasonal goodies, while nativity scenes, musical parades and exhibitions add to the fun. The market is very Spanish. There is no sight of mulled wine or bratwurst and the market certainly does not have the typically German feel that many christmas markets tend to have. In the evenings, when the lights from the market lit up the square and the beautiful cathedral, Fira de Santa Llúcia Christmas Market is definitely worth paying a vist, even if you have no purchases to make.
Another famous market in Barcelona is Fira de Nadal a la Sagrada Familia. The market runs around the famous cathedral which makes it more spread out than the Fira de Santa Llucia. It has similar products on offer but it does not have quite the same atmosphere. However, the Sagrada Familia itself it a must-see during a Barcelona visit, then why not see the amazing Gaudí designed building and the market in one trip.
Do you like skate, surf or snowboard and rock, pop, indie, garage, 80´s and electronic music? Well, then Mondays and Tuesdays are your days in Club Apolo!
Club Apolo is one of the most hip nightlife spots in Barcelona and has a 25 year old history. It’s open almost every day from Monday to Sunday and depending on which day you go, there are different styles of music.
Today Apolo serves as a concert hall as well as a dance club, and one year ago they opened an adjacent club Sala 2. The total capacity is more than 1000 people, and some of the most interesting concerts in Barcelona are taking place at this location.
The biggest parties are called NASTY MONDAYS, with Dj MadMax and Sören , and CRAPPY TUESDAYS. At Sala 2 you can hear New Electro and Fidget House witch a touch of Hip-Hop put on by DJ Kosmos and DJ Dr. Cartagena.
Sounds good? Then we’ll maybe see each other next week at Nou De La Rambla 113, 08004 Barcelona near the metro station “Parallel” (L2/L3). Entrance is about 10-15 €.
Coming Friday, the 13th of November 2009, the World March finally reaches Barcelona and so of course it is time for a party! At 17:30h the event will begin at Plaça Universitat with performances and at 20:00h the group of people walking the March will arrive at Arc de Triumf, where the party continues.
But perhaps it is better if I begin with giving you guys some information about the thought behind the World March. The thought behind the World march is that there is given attention to the problems in the world, they stand for ‘Peace and Nonviolence’. At the 29th and the 30th of September this year, the opening and blessing ceremonie took place at Rekohu, a city in Chatham Island (an island of New-Zealand) and at the 2nd of October the World March started in Wellington, New-Zealand. At the 2th of January 2010, the March will be finished in Argentina. When this has happened, the March went through six continents, 90 countries and the people walking have passed 160,000 km. In these 90 days, the March passed all four seasons twice.
There is a permanent team of 50 members, that is walking the whole March and besides that, there are walking around the one million people allong. This means that there are also people who are walking the March through their continent, through their country, etc.
Do you want to participate during this event, just like me? Than make sure that you are at the above named places and the above set times. I’ve heard people saying that it will be one big event and just as Rafael de la Rubio said: “Friends… Let’s march and not stop until we have fulfilled our goal! A world withoud Wars and without Violence”.
Oh, and if you want to contribute to the World March, you can buy a wristband and all revenues will exclusively contributed for the World March for Peace and Nonviolence as well as Protected Species projects. This wristband will cost you just € 2,-, excl. shippingcosts.

Ever wanted to go to a modern Jamaican restaurant/lounge?
Stush & Teng, in the “Carrer del Rosselló” near the metro station “Diagonal”, is a place to enjoy a great relaxed Caribbean atmosphere in a big and hectically city like Barcelona.
And the best thing is, that you can go there no just at night. In the morning they offer a tasty breakfast with a great choice of coffees from different countries. At midday you can buy a menu with “empanadas”, dumplings and chicken. But the real session starts at 9 pm with flavoures and wines from all over the world accompanied by Reggae music.
Cocktails, like the self created “Stush & Teng”, are the main focus´ later at night before the location close their doors at about 2 o´clock.
A few words to the interior. It´s made out of base material which doesn´t harm the environment in the process of manufacturing. Due to the change of lights and light-effects you´ve got the feeling that the adjustment of the furniture changes. But this may also be an effect of the rooms´ decoration. The walls and the ceiling exist out of boards with irregular big holes and geometry. These holes again create a snatchy design. Incredible!
See you the next time in Stush & Teng!
