Known for sponsorship reasons as AXA FC Barcelona, Barcelona’s basketball team is one the most successful teams in the National League. They have won seven of the last thirteen National League titles and are the top team in the famous Liga ACB having won most of the Championships in the league’s history.
The basketball club is part of the “FC Barcelona” family and was founded on August 24, 1926. The team plays in the Palau Blaugrana, a 8,250 person capacity arena, located between Mini Estadi and the Camp Nou in Barcelona. Just as the Barcelona Football Club, AXA FC Barcelona has been a symbol of Catalan Nationalism expressed during the dictatorship period, always opposing to Real Madrid and other Spanish teams.
In the 1980′s the team began one of its best periods in history thanks to some extraordinary players such as Juan Antonio San Epifano “Epi” Nacho Solozábal and Chicho Sibilio amongst others. Today, AXA FC Barcelona is fighting for the best position in Europe, warmed by the huge fan base and their passionate commitment for the sport.
