Sevilla is one of the most vibrant cities in Spain, so undoubtedly, there is more than enough to see and to do over there. Some of the most important sites which must be visited, are listed below.
Sevilla Cathedral
It is one of the biggest cathedrals in all over the world. The cathedral is situated in the city centre and is probably the most visited site by tourists. Different architectural styles of the cathedral stand as evidence of the diverse city’s past which dates back to the 15th century.
The Giralda Tower
The towel was built in 1198 by Moors, so it has a great historical significance for the city. It is attached to the cathedral as a bell tower, although it was originally built as a minaret for a mosque. Even if you don’t want to climb up to the top of the tower, from where you can get an amazing view of the city, you should visit this Sevilla landmark anyway.
Alcazares Reales
Same as Giralda towel, this castle/palace was built by Moors, however it was further developed and expanded by Christian monarchs. It is one of the city’s oldest building dating back to the 10th century. The Alcazares is divided into a number of sections. Probably, the most marvellous part is Patio de las Doncellas. By the way, much of the fine arts on the walls has survived till nowadays, so it is easier to imagine how it originally has been. Additionally, the palace has some nice gardens too, which could look familiar, because Ridley Scoot used them in his move ‘Kingdom of Heaven’
Plaza de Espana
This square represents all that Spain is. There are showed all provinces A to Z in the palace and each of them has very different design. The palace has been recently renovated and is really spectacular. There is a huge fountain and pond with two bridges in front of the building. Well, there is no a lot to say, just Plaza de Espana is one of the ‘must-see’ places in Sevilla.
The Barrio Santa Cruz
This district is a part of the ancient Jew’s quarter. With its narrow cobbled streets, lined with old, magnificent buildings, charming cafés, bars and local shops the area is one of the cosiest places in the city where you can feel the spirit of Sevilla.
Maria Luisa Park
This park is the largest park in the city and one of the most marvellous in Europe. It has many orange trees, palm trees, elms, and Mediterranean pine trees. One of the feature to mention about the park is that there is a monument for one of the most famous Sevillian poets Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. The park is favourite among local citzens as well as tourists.
Bullfighting in Sevilla
Although there is a tendency that bullfighting is declining in its popularity, Sevilla with Madrid are two cities which remain so passionate about this activity. So, if you wanna see bullfighting, Sevilla is probably the best place to go. The Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza situated in Paseo de Colon, is one of the oldest bullrings in Spain with bullfighting season from April until late September.
