On the 29th November 2009 FC Barcelona is once again playing against Real Madrid at their home ground, Camp Nou. The game is called “El Clásico” and is played twice every season, the second game will be in April 2010. The Clásico term came about in the mid-2000s, and is originally a name for any historical South American footballing rivalry.
Earlier this year, FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed that there was an agreement in principle between Barcelona and the Italian club, Internazionale(Inter) for the 28 year old Swedish born player Zlatan Ibrahimović to join Barca in exchange for Samuel Eto’o, plus a fee. On the 26th July Zlatan arrived to Barcelona, he was welcomed and presented to a crowd of over 60,000 people at Camp Nou the day after. He signed a 5-year contract for €46 million and the exchange of Eto’o (valued at €20 million). Zlatan currently earns an annual salary of €9.5 million. The tickets for these rivalry games between Barca and Real Madrid sell out extremely quickly and they are very expensive, often hundereds of euro per ticket. Almost everyone would agree that going to one of the ”El Clásico” games is unforgettable. The strong tension between the two teams and the sold out arena (110.000 people) truly makes it an experiance of a lifetime. Book your ticket today!

During summer time we recieve most short-term bookings and now at the end of September when all the universities are about to start, there is a huge interest in renting long term. Reduced deposits and our landlords desicion to charge one fixed price for all flats (no matter how many tenants staying, provided they do not exceed the number of beds provided) have resulted in many students renting an entire apartment together. The city of Barcelona has so much to offer all year around. Many people forget that apart from the beaches and the amazing weather during summer time, there are hunderds of reasons to pay Barcelona a visit. The great food, the beautiful arquitechture, the many museums and not to forget the “football culture” are just a small selection of what makes Barcelona one of the most popular cities in Europe among turists, students and workers. This year we expect an increase of people renting short-term accommodation during winter time many landlords have great “offers” for this time of the year. On 19th August 2009 there is once again a landmark match. The great and traditional Catalan football club FC Barcelona wants to defend its trophy. In the battle for the Joan Gamber trophy this year, they play against Manchester City. This event takes place every year in August, in honour of the founder of the FC Barcelona, the Swiss Hans Gampers (hence the Catalan Joan Gamper).
The participants in this match are always the hosting team from Barcelona, and other leading teams. Often in the past, South American teams took part aswell with the European masters to compete against Barça – with other Spanish teams rarely being invited. Here, where once players like Maradona and Ronaldinho were creating their respective legends, it is now Messi who has to inspire the audience with excellent goals. FC Barcelona, as well as tomorrow’s opponents Manchester City, were founded over 100 years ago and have competed ever since from year to year with more and more fans, with tomorrow being the climax of the tenseness and excitement. It will therefore be an interesting game and in any case a must for all football lovers. The Joan Gamper Trophy kicks off the football season at the Nou Camp and Barcelona is going to present its new signings, with which it wants to play this season against the most talented teams. Furthermore there will be something special for the little fans. A child under 14 years old is allowed to observe the spectacle for free and the rest of the prices starts from 19 Euros.

Last night was one of the most unique experiences I have had yet. As thousands and thousands of Barça fans flooded the streets (with not a ManU jersey in sight….might I add), my roommate and I headed toward Maremagnum, where a big screen was being erected to show the Championship match between FC Barcelona and Manchester United.
Mind you, we are both 5 feet tall (around 1.5 meters), from the Midwestern United States, and accustomed to large crowds and fairly aggressive people. Yet.. nothing could have prepared us for the night that was to come. We laughed at the huge swarm of people crossing the bridge out to the mall area, and wondered where they could possibly all fit (I’m not sure it was the best choice of location, considering..). Then we realized, they couldn’t.
The majority of spectators couldn’t actually see the game, but a creative few climbed into plants, up light poles, and stood on chairs for more than 2 hours in order to watch Barça defeat Manchester United 2-0. After being shoved in too many directions to count, stepped on, and more or less physically assaulted (but not in a mean way), we made it to a ledge where we could sit and see (sort of) what was going on in the game. Looking over the crowd was incredible, and I am so glad I got to join in in such a great moment for the people of Barcelona. Tourists (aka guiris) and locals alike were decked out in red and blue, with scarves, flags, and banners wrapped around their necks to demonstrate the intense pride they feel for their team. After the final buzzer, pedestrians, drivers, and motorists flooded out into the streets, honking, waving, and yelling, and the noise level was unbelievable. It was certainly a once in a lifetime experience. Who would have though soccer (or should I say football) could be so exciting?
I was planning on going to Barcelona but didn’t know how or where to start planning my trip, my main concern was accomodation. I did not know anything about the city: Where to look for an appartment, what are the current housing prices are, which neighbourhood, living alone or sharing a flat with strangers?
After looking on the internet and contacting some people, I ended up with Barcelona-Home. This is a company that can help you making your stay in Barcelona more comfortable. Their core business is providing people who are visiting Barcelona (from students to tourists or professionals) with accomodation in the city of Barcelona. Depending on what your budget is and what you’re looking for, you can choose to stay in an apartment, luxury loft or a shared flat with students. The good thing is that almost all of their appartments and rooms are equipped with internet, washing machine and kitchen. Most of their appartments are situated in the city centre of Barcelona and have good connections to the main sights and universities. I am now renting a shared flat in the Sants district and I’m really happy there, a big terrace and nice people with whom I share the house.
Besides accomodation you can enjoy lots of other services that can only improve your Barcelona experience. They can provide you for example with tickets to concerts and sports events such as Football (Fc Barcelona, Espanyol Barcelona), Basketball, Formula 1 or Moto GP. More info on tickets for concerts and sports events. Furthermore it is possible to book Flight Tickets, Hotels and rent a car or a moto through the website.
The company even has also separate website to which you can subscribe and be a member of a guestlist with which you can enter into some of the best clubs in Barcelona, such as Shôko or Opium Mar! How to become a member to the guestlist
I have really had some good experiences with this company, their service is really great and the can attend to you in almost any language you wish! You should think about it when you are comming to Barcelona.
Que partido de la Blaugrana
An almighty Fc Barcelona litterally ran over Real Madrid, bringing them a huge step closer to winning the championship. If they succeed getting 5 more points, Barcelona will win the title again.
Messi, Puyol, Henry, Xavi and co humiliated Real Madrid and showed their brillance during 90 crazy minutes. The euphory couldn’t take that long since they are playing an equally important game against Chelsea on Wednesday. This second leg of the Champions League Semi Finals must be won by Fc Barcelona.
It wan’t only Fc Barcelona that obtained success this weekend though. RCD Espanyol, a couple of weeks ago at the bottom of the league, now won their last 4 games. On Sunday they played Valencia and won the game with a stunning 3-0, leaving them now on the 14 place – further away from relegation.
People who want to experience a football game in Barcelona but like to save money as well, might choose to go to an RCD Espanyol Barcelona game. RCD Espanyol is the second biggest team in Barcelona and also plays in “Primera División” (First division). Details
Yesterday’s game of La Blaugrana was actually a bit redundant given the stunning 4-0 victory in the first game. But never say never!
München, supported by an enthousiastic home crowd, started ferociously but waited too long to score the first goal. Around half time, Frank Ribéry succeeded to round Victor Valdes and score. München were up 1-0 with 43 minutes to play and at least 3 goals to score in order to play extra time. Fortunately, FC Barcelona did not let München score again and ensured their semi-final game against Chelsea via a beautiful goal of Keita.
Chelsea played Liverpool, who had to make up the 3-1 defeat in the first leg. Liverpool planned to do this with two early goals. But the English clash continued and Chelsea came back to 3-2. In the thrilling last 15 minutes, Liverpool got to 4-3 and needed one more goal to go through to the semi-finals, until Frank Lampard scored a last minute goal leading Chelsea towards the semi-finals against Barcelona!

Today is the quarter final match between Barça and FC Bayern München, and it kicks off at Camp Nou 20:45 (CET).
Barça have played 4 Champions League games in Camp Nou, and won two, drawn one and lost one, whilst Bayern München played 4 away and had three wins, one draw and 0 losses.
These are the two teams that probably impressed most, Barcelona winning goal rich games, and Bayern München crushing Sporting Lissabon with 12-1, in two games.
“But this last weekend Bayern lost against Wolfsburg with 1-5, which is not only a good thing for the catalans,” says Pujol, “cause now Bayern really are hungry for winning!”
It will be a great game!
